At The Coop Unifrontieres, we care for the development of young farmers. They always had a special place within the cooperative and we want to continue to focus on them in the years to come. As a matter of fact, in the last 9 years we have supported 15 young farmers in their establishment projects.
We currently have a program for young farmers. It is the Agricultural Succession Cooperative Fund (Fonds coopératif d’aide à la relève agricole) which is a partnership between La Coop fédérée, Desjardins and Quebec’s Young Farmers Provincial Federation (QYFPF). You will find more information on this fund below.
Young farmers, supported by their local cooperative, can get financial support from the Agricultural Succession Cooperative Fund. The support is available for a maximum of 3 years and is non renewable. The program has 3 components:
LA COOP FINANCIAL SUPPORT COMPONENT
Young farmer special discount: 10 % on eligible inputs purchase value, proportionate to the candidate’s shares in the farm, max. $5000/year/farm.
SKILLS DEVELOPMENT COMPONENT
For the duration of the support, each grantee has to make a commitment towards developing his or her professional skills through offered trainings as well as participating in some associative activities.
LA COOP PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT COMPONENT
Eligibility to professional support includes access to a psychologist, a legal advisor or an administrative advisor.
